Autumn's Harvest Blog Hop

Welcome to stop #22 in the Autumn's Harvest blog hop!

To enter the contests, follow the instructions in the Rafflecopter below.

Autumn is harvest time; a time of preparation for the long winter ahead. A time to reflect on the bounty of the prior year, a time to be thankful for your friends and family and what you have.

Autumn is also a contrast to and a harbinger of the renewal and rebirth to come in the spring. A reminder that it's not all easy times ahead, but someday the sun will shine again.

The first two books in my "Blood and Honor" series are set during late summer, fall, and early winter. And that's no coincidence. The four books in the series chart a year or so in the life of Enrico Lucchesi, the don of the Lucchesi family, and his family's struggle against the Andrettis, who very much want to wipe out the Lucchesis and gain control of their fortune and territory.

In the first book, Revenge (Blood and Honor, #1), Enrico learns that the long-standing truce between the families is about to break, and the long summer of peace that he's enjoyed has come to an end. Likewise, the relationship that he embarks on with Kate Andretti, the estranged wife of a rival, will have its own trials--its own summer, fall, winter, and spring--as they endure the challenges ahead.

A woman on the run. A damaged Mafia don. A rival bent on revenge...

Mafia don Enrico Lucchesi struggles to preserve a fragile truce with the Andretti family. But when Kate Andretti flees from her abusive husband, Enrico won't leave her in jeopardy. Can he save her without reigniting the bloody feud between the families?

What books have you read where the seasons play a role--
whether it be overt or subtle?

One I can think of is the "Game of Thrones" series by George R. R. Martin, where the constant refrain of "Winter is coming" signals both a literal change of seasons and the vast conflict that is erupting across the seven kingdoms.

  3. It’s hard to say what exactly would be my Go-To Autumn Romance book. When I think real hard about it, I would have to say it has a sexy, strong, determined male that when it comes to love is just lost. Then there has to be a woman who is usually in need of help or needs to know what love and family is. Together they heal each other and love turns out to be their greatest gift. I also love a happy ending at this time of year, usually where the epilogue has them starting their own family to love and cherish. Oh….and definitely HOT loving too!

I don't normally read a lot of fantasy, but the characters are so well-drawn that I fell in love with these books. The HBO series is good too, but of course isn't as deep as the books.

Toasted marshmallows and bonfires. Add in some mulled cider, and you've got the perfect night!

  62. I also thought of the Stephanie Plum books. The novellas are each based around a holiday or certain season. Even in the regular books it seems the season somehow impacts what is going in the story. Another series I thought of was the Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa. There is the summer and winter courts and the weather in each corresponds.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

Thanks for the suggestions! I just started the Stephanie Plum series, so haven't gotten to the novellas yet. I think I have the first Julie Kagawa somewhere around here... (my TBR piles have TBR piles!)

Mmm.... hot chocolate! I resisted buying some cocoa at the store last week, and now I'm regretting it. All we've been talking about on here are food and books!

  65. There are so many books that occur around the holidays, so I can't pick just one.Romance seems so much more oassionate when it is cold out. In fact, when it is hot out it is hard for me to enjoy a book where they are cuddling or more as the thought of more heat seems yucky right then.lol...Home for the Holidays was good book. now to go get my peach tea and go read some more romance..smilz

You're the second person to recommend that series. I'm going to have to check it out. And Game of Thrones is awesome on both TV and in the books, though of course the books go deeper.

You're not the only one who feels that way. I've got to start that book soon. It's sitting on my bookshelf taunting me. The only reason I haven't is that I know I'll get sucked in and won't get anything else done until I finish it.
