Welcome to stop #29 of the Alpha Male Blog Hop!
I love alpha male heroes, those men who are decisive, confident, and don't take crap from anyone. Heroes who could snap you like a twig, but who never would because it would go against everything they believe in to harm someone who isn't their equal in size and strength.
I also love their beta brethren, those men who are sensitive, kind, caring, and able to solve problems with their wits instead of their fists. Men who could and would happily be your best friend and your shoulder to cry on in hard times. Men who may be physically strong, but who rely on a different kind of strength to win their battles. But don't get me wrong--I'm not into wimps!
My favorite kind of hero is what I've heard referred to as a "gamma" hero--a blend of alpha and beta, the best of both worlds. A man who's protective, brave, and willing to fight to safeguard the people he loves, but who's never an arrogant jerk who pushes others around to suit him and who won't listen to anyone's input (including the heroine's) because he thinks he knows best. A man who's willing to admit when he's wrong and willing to apologize when it's called for. Now that's a true hero in my book!
Some of my favorite heroes: Zsadist, in J.R. Ward's Lover Awakened; Jonathan, in Delilah Marvelle's Once Upon a Scandal; Mac in Joey W. Hill's Natural Law; Rehvenge in J.R. Ward's Lover Avenged (I love nearly all of Ward's heroes!); Eidolon in Larissa Ione's Pleasure Unbound; Ares in Larissa Ione's Eternal Rider (come to think of it, I love nearly all of Larissa Ione's heroes too!); Jonathan Lloyd, the Earl of Ruel, in Natasha Blackthorne's A Measured Risk (this book is WAY hotter than Fifty Shades of Grey!)
What kind of heroes do you love? Who are some of your favorites?
***
Now that you've heard what kind of heroes I like, are you wondering what kind of books I write? Of course you are! :)
My current romantic suspense series is called Blood and Honor and is set in Italy among the Calabrian Mafia. The series chronicles the battles--both bloody and romantic--between two warring Mafia clans. Books 1 and 2 are available now. Here's a taste of Book 2:
An Interpol agent playing a dangerous game. A Mafia princess desperate to escape. A man determined to exact retribution...
Nick Clarkston, a young Interpol agent, threatens to undo the fragile peace between the Lucchesi and Andretti families when he tries to take down the Mafia don father who abandoned him. He allies with his father's sworn enemy, a mobster both devious and ruthless. The mobster's alluring daughter helps Nick negotiate the murky criminal underworld, but he soon learns she's using him. Trapped, and with nowhere to turn, Nick makes a tragic mistake that plunges him further into danger.
Delfina Andretti appears to be the typical Mafia princess--but this princess wants out. Delfina dreams of being a fashion designer, and hooking up with Nick is her ticket out of an arranged marriage. Her feelings for Nick are genuine, but he's leery of her. Even worse, his heedless drive for justice threatens to get them both killed and to put everyone Delfina loves behind bars--unless she and Nick can forge a new future for their warring families.
Excerpt:
Nick turned the music up and caught Delfina’s eye. Was it just his imagination, or had she been admiring his bare arse? “Watching me, were you?” he asked, keeping his voice pitched low.
She blushed, roses staining her cheeks. His chest felt lighter than it had in weeks. “I’m not answering that.”
He strode over to her and leaned in, forcing her to sprawl back on the bed, caged within his arms. He placed his lips near her ear. “Your blush told me everything. Every single naughty thought you were having.”
“Madonna,” she muttered and braced her hands against his chest. “You’re getting a swollen head.”
He darted his tongue out and ran it along the edge of her ear. “Most certainly.” He put a knee up on the bed and rubbed his hard aching length along her thigh.
She laughed and pushed against him, but he didn’t budge. “Time to get undressed,” he whispered. Her hands went to the buttons that ran down the front of the silk blouse tucked into her skirt. She played with the top one.
“Now?” she asked, her voice lilting and playful.
“Now.” He rumbled the word in her ear and she shivered. “Take it off. I want to see you. All of you.”

I love everything about Alphas! Awesome Blog Hop!
ReplyDeletesusanmplatt AT hotmail DOT com
Hi Susan,
DeleteMe too! There's just something about a big sexy man with confidence, isn't there?
Thanks for stopping by and entering the contest! :)
I had never heard the term 'Gamma' hero before, but that really is what I like in real life, even if I prefer Alphas in my books!
ReplyDeletejochibi AT yahoo DOT com
Hi Jo,
DeleteYep, if they were alphas all the time, we'd be tearing our hair out and yelling about what cavemen they were!
Thanks for stopping by and entering the contest! :)
I love Alpha men, because I need someone as confident and dominant as me to have an equal relationship - I hate the feeling that my partner is less powerful than me and cannot make it without me.
ReplyDeleteoceanrebel333@gmail.com
Exactly. I want someone I can rely on and lean on (when I need to). I don't want to be my partner's mommy.
DeleteThanks for stopping by and entering the contest! :)
I love Ares too , I agree its hard not to love any of Larissa's heroes.
ReplyDeleteDawna Newman
vampiremistress2010(at)gmail(dot)com
Hi Dawna,
DeleteI thought Ares was just awesome. I loved hearing the commentary in his head. Larissa does a great job with all her heroes. Wraith is another favorite. He's such a smartass!
Thanks for stopping by and entering the contest! :)
Gamma Heroes are great too, but I love the hardheadedness of an Alpha. lol Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeletekaylyndavis1986@yahoo.com
Hi Kaylyn,
DeleteOh yeah, a hardheaded guy can certainly be intriguing--when you don't want to smack him in the head with a frying pan. :) Those alphas usually make up for it in the sexiness department though. LOL
Thanks for stopping by and entering the contest! :)
I honestly can enjoy alpha, beta or gamma heroes if the story is told well. My favorite alpha hero at the moment is Rourke from the In Death series.
ReplyDeleteJenny
Jyl22075 at gmail.com
Hi Jenny,
DeleteRourke is a good one. Very, very sexy. *sigh*

I love an alpha. beta, or gamma...I think my favorite is Julian from RJ Scott's A Better Man.

I agree with the men from J.R. and Larissa's books.
ReplyDeleteI like a totally Alpha, but not one who is a butt wipe,ya know...
My favorite character is Curran from Kate Daniels series. He is a total Alpha psycho. HMM, I guess I like my Alphas a little on the crazy side...LOL
koonie2888 at yahoo dot com
Hi Michelle,
DeleteLOL--I'll have to check Curran out. Sounds like he's fun.
Thanks for stopping by and entering the contest! :)
This is my first time hearing about *gamma*. I think that may be more up my alley. A little bit of the best of both worlds!

I love alpha and beta heroes. I like your term for the combination of the two traits of alpha & beta. One of my favorite alpha is Zarek from Dance with the Devil. I also like Ward's BDB heroes.

I love Rage in J.R. Wards BDB series and Thomas from Lynsay Sands Argeneau Vamp series! Yummy!
ReplyDeletejinni_james@yahoo.com
Hi Jinni,
DeleteRhage is my third fave in the BDB series. He was my number two for a while, but I fell hard for Rehv when his book came out.
I'll have to catch up on the Argeneau vamps--I've only read one (which I loved). So many books, so little time!

I've never heard the term Gamma hero but I can see why they would be appealing :)

Hi Alicia,
DeleteI heard it last year and thought it was perfect to describe the kind of hero I like (and like to write).
Thanks for stopping by and entering the contest! :)
Why I love Alpha Males is no real surprise! The perfect Alpha Male for me could be a Vampire, a Scottish Laird, an English Rogue/Gentleman, a Werewolf or Shape-shifter, or a Knight. He’s the rogue who thinks he can’t be reformed into a gentleman. He’s the rough and scarred Scottish laird that has a heart of gold. He’s the werewolf or shape-shifter that needs to heal an aching heart because it took him years to find his true mate. He’s the vampire who has waited decades for that special someone’s blood to sing to him and wake him up. And he’s the knight who can defeat the enemy with a quick swing of his sword, but can’t see the love in front of his face. My Alpha Male has eyes that can see into your soul and are as blue as the sea, or as black as a storm. He’s tall and brooding. His heart can enfold you into its grasp and make you fall in love when he gives it to you freely and completely. He is protective and passionate. In the end he is the one that makes your heart jump and butterflies fly in your stomach, and still kiss you until your legs melt!
ReplyDeleteAngelheart618@gmail.com
Ooh, sign me up!!! You captured the perfect alpha right there.
DeleteThanks for stopping by and entering the contest! :)
Now that you mention it, gammas are way better than Alphas. I think a lot of Julia Quinn's heroes would be gammas.
ReplyDeleteThanks for doing this giveaway!
~Krista
pinkbonanza{ AT }gmail{ DOT }com
Hi Krista,
DeleteLOL--exactly. I think a lot of alphas end up gammas by the end of the book. Otherwise the heroine probably couldn't live with him! :)
I love Julia Quinn's heroes, especially Thomas Cavendish.
Thanks for stopping by and entering the contest! :)
I like a hero who is kind, caring and protective. Handsome is okay too.
ReplyDeleteKit3247(at)aol(dot)com
Handsome is great, but you're right, the other qualities count the most. One of the reasons I love Zsadist in "Lover Awakened" is that he thinks he has nothing to offer because of his scars and his slave tats and his lack of education and polish, but he doesn't realize it's the inside that counts, and there he's a prince. Now I'm getting all teared up!

ReplyDeleteWolphcall(at)bellsouth(dot)net

I love Jack Gordon from Liz Crowe's REALTOR series.
ReplyDeleteAlpha males are the best….strong, independent, fiercely protective, but on the inside they are nothing but a big ol’ teddy bear! I love the way their mouths talk filthy, but their eyes portray their sensitive sweet. They can be rough and tough in the bedroom, but still have the gentle caress of an attentive and protective lover. It's all in the heart.....alpha males are the best!

Thanks for stopping by and entering the contest! :)
Some of the Alpha's I like to read about are in Lora Leigh's Breed Series, J.D. Tyler's An Alpha Pack novel, Patricia Briggs Alpha and Omega Series, and Michelle Hauf's books. I like Alpha's that are strong and know what want & aren't afraid to go for it either even if they have to take risks to get it. I also like Alpha's that's not afraid to let his mate fight that she too can be powerful and together they are a team they work together. Alpha's that fight for what they want, declare their mates and don't let anyone get in their way of their true love and happiness.
