I hope you've been enjoying the holidays. One of my favorite things is decorating our Christmas tree. I love strange or unusual Christmas ornaments, and today I'm going to share a few of my all-time favorites. First off, here's our lovely tree in its entirety:
Looks pretty normal, right? Well here are some of the odd little ornaments you can find on it! First up is one of my very favorites: the Christmas hedgehog!
Isn't he just the cutest? I found him at a Nordstrom's many years ago, and just couldn't pass him up!
Next up is another odd ornament (also found at Nordstrom's): the Christmas snail! Yes, it's an actual snail. With a cute little smile on its face.
No Christmas at the Delamar house would be complete without the Christmas guinea pig!
Last, but not at all least, are the Country Yumkins! Back in the early 90's, my mom saved up a bunch of Del Monte labels and sent them in to get these ornaments. There's a whole set. Here you can see Sweetie Pea and Juicy Pineapple.
I'd love to hear about your favorite holiday traditions--and if you've got strange ornaments too, I want to know what they are! Let me know in the comments below.

decorating the tree together
ReplyDeleteWe have a clown ornament which everyone thinks is spooky and ugly. Now they fight over who gets to put it on. One of my daughter asked me to put the dumb thing in the will because she wants it.
ReplyDeleteHey, Dana--no goofy ornaments here, but my favorite is a stained glass unicorn my mom made for me as a kid, and a couple of reindeer ones the kids made in school.
ReplyDeleteLove the hedgehog, and Sweetie Pea. :)
Merry Christmas!
Hi Dana, I love your quiky tree. I think the hedgehog is beautiful and cute. I have a favorite ornament from when I was little. A porclean figurine of a girl with a big green bell skirt, and so it is an ornament and a bell. I don't hang it on the tree anymore as it has been knocked off by cats and has a chip in the skirt. I keep it on a high shelf. Happy Holidays.
ReplyDeleteNone of our decorations are the same, but I think the strangest one we have is probably a bell, with a panda wearing a hat and scarf, hanging from the clanger! We also have a bauble with a jogging santa painted on it that was brought back from a trip to the US about 10 years ago, and some china angels by parents bought in Portugal just before their first Christmas together 30 years ago.

I don't know if any of my ornaments are goofy, I am always picking up different ones on my travels. I have different themed trees throughout the house, a Disney tree, a western tree.
ReplyDeleteHot chocolate & cinnamon buns while decorating with Amahl & The Night Visitors playing.
ReplyDeleteCan't think of any strange traditions or decorations, though my folks in particular have a ton of them! My favorites include the British black taxicab and the little piano...

We love to add new decorations to the tree every year but it is the keepsake ones I love the most. Every year we have to include a popcicle stick Rudolph, and a plaster handprint of my daughter.
ReplyDeleteNo strange ornaments here. Now that the kids are grown, I get to have a "decorator" tree. We don't have any traditions, other than being together.
ReplyDeleteI love the hedgehog. So damn cute!
ReplyDeleteme, we do not have a Christmas Tree yet, but surely for our new house I will provide one!
ReplyDeleteI love your ornaments! They are so unusual and cute. :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite tradition is having my mom spend the night at my house to wake up with the kids in the morning.
Thank you for the free read and for participating in the hop.
I hope you have a very Happy New Year!
