Ruggero ignored her and pulled out a pack of cigarettes and lit one. Loredana watched him take a drag, but when the smoke started flowing from his nose and mouth, she lost it.

 “What the hell?” he asked.

 Something in his face changed, darkened, and his eyes lasered in on her. He grabbed hold of her arms. “Is that how you see me? As a man? Or do you see me as a Mafioso?” He pulled her close, his eyes flicking back and forth across her face, before dipping down to stare at her lips.

 Both of them were breathing hard. She placed her hands on his chest, his muscles twitching beneath her palms. Her heart was pounding, her stomach flipping. “I see you as a man,” she said, the words just barely above a whisper.

 Before she could second-guess herself, she leaned in, rising up on her toes, and pressed her lips to his. For just an instant, he kissed her back, then his hands clamped down on her biceps, and he broke the contact. “What the fuck are you doing?”

 “I don’t know.”

 Those wolf’s eyes drilled into hers. “You’d better know, Loredana. I’m not a man you can play with.”

 She stared at him for a moment that stretched on and on. What did she want? She knew; she just needed the courage to own up to it. Then she stepped closer and raised her lips to his. “I’m not playing with you,” she murmured against them.

 With a groan, he hauled her flat against his well-muscled body, his mouth coming down on hers in a searing kiss. She clutched his suit jacket as he took control, his tongue delving into her mouth, his hands fisting in her hair.

 She shouldn’t be doing this, she knew it, and yet she couldn’t stop. And why should she? She might not have much time left, and if she was going to die, she was going to die happy—or something like it.

 Leo had been up most of the night working on the numbers for his movie, so she felt confident that she wouldn’t wake him when she left for her hike. She needed some serious space from the guy. He jumbled every one of her senses. He was a man who didn’t want commitment and she was a woman who did. Her head knew he wasn’t the guy for her, but her heart didn’t care. And her duplicitous body…forget about it. Her heart pounded like a damn drum whenever he was around, her eyes always searched him out and her hands ached to touch. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

 She’d just finished writing him a note when he showed up in the kitchen, looking bleary-eyed, rumpled and gorgeous as hell in shorts…and only shorts. His washboard abs made her mouth water for a taste. For all the hours she’d spent last night hardening her heart to this man, all it took was one look for the traitorous organ to pound out of control.

 His sleepy eyes narrowed as he took in her outfit. “What the hell are you planning now?”

 She ignored his tone and the way it made her girl parts tingle. “I’m going on a little hike. If you don’t see me back here tonight, then call the fire department again. I may need rescuing.”

 He shook his head slowly as his tired eyes opened wider. “Don’t even think about it.”

 “Uh oh. Too late.” She zipped past him, but he caught her arm and twirled her about face.

 Leo exhaled a measured breath. “Nothing I say is going to stop you, is it?” She shrugged a shoulder and opened her mouth to tell him she was a grown woman, perfectly capable of taking care of herself, but he cut her off. “Fine. Give me time to get dressed and pack us some provisions.” He gestured to the tiny pack she had over her shoulders. “That doesn’t hold nearly enough water for the amount of energy we’ll be expending.” He leaned forward and touched his forehead to hers. “Give me ten minutes or else.”

 Kim smothered a grin. He was kind of funny when he ordered her around. “Or else what?” She kept a straight face. Sometimes she liked goading him just to see what he would do.

 “Or else when I see you next, I’m going to put you over my knee and spank that sweet ass of yours.”

 A blast of heat exploded in her stomach and moved directly south. Though the picture he created sounded erotic as hell, Kim was totally not into that. “Don’t count on it,” she breathed. “That is not on my to-do list. Ever.”

 “Don’t knock it ‘til you’ve tried it.” He pulled away. “Ten minutes starting now. You better be here.”
 About the Author

 After graduating high school in Texas, Dee J. moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting. For twenty years, she acted in television and worked behind the scenes as an acting/dialogue coach for sitcoms.  Writing happened accidentally after a vivid dream and the urging of her husband to “Just write it down.” Three weeks, fourteen hours a day, and four hundred and fifty (long hand) pages later, she had her first novel.  Dee J. loves writing books filled with action, mystery and love. (Not necessarily in that order.) Her experience in show business led to her narrating many of the books in the Adrenaline Highs series for Audible.com. She is the wife of a wonderful man and mother to a fabulous daughter. She’s a dog lover all the way, with a fondness towards Boxers and Pit Bulls.  I recently did an interview with P.T. Macias, owner of Lions Book Promotions, as part of the blog tour. Here it is, including a sneak peek at Reckoning, which I plan to release in the May/June time frame.  

 So, can you tell us what makes Dana Delamar tick?  What got you started on the path to becoming an author?

 I’ve wanted to be a writer from a very young age. In my teens, I was constantly writing romances for my sisters and my friends. They were all about the rock stars we adored. I spent hours and hours dreaming up stories!

 What are you currently working on?  Would you care to share a snippet?

 I’m currently working on Reckoning, the fifth book in the Blood and Honor Mafia romance series. It’s about a hit man who falls in love with the anti-Mafia judge presiding over his boss’s trial. Here’s a brief taste:

 Do you include some of your own personal experiences in your books or do you prefer to use your imagination?

 It’s a mix of both. I frequently write about places I’ve been, occasionally about things that have happened to me. But since I’m not in the Mob, a lot of it is drawn one-hundred percent from my imagination!

 What genre do you typically write in and why did you choose this over others?  

 My first book was a hot contemporary romance (still unpublished). I switched to romantic suspense while I was playing the “what if” game trying to brainstorm my next book. I asked myself, “What if my hero isn’t such a good guy?” And that’s how the Blood and Honor series was born. 

 I also really enjoy erotic romance and hot contemporary romance, so I think my next series may be in one of those genres. And I’m not ruling out paranormal either--I just need the right idea!

 Do you have a specific process or a ritual you go through when sitting down to write?

 Not really, though I have found that I write more easily if I’m doing it longhand in a notebook. I also like to have a cup of tea or chai with me. 

 Where do you find your inspiration for your plots?  Do you have any tricks of the trade you would care to share?  

 For the Blood and Honor books, I try to put myself in my characters’ shoes. What moves would I make if I were a Mafia don? How would I feel if I found out that the man I loved was a criminal--and he’d been hiding it from me? 

 I also do a ton of research, reading about what real-life Mafiosos have done. I’ve picked up little tidbits here and there that have morphed into whole plots. Occasionally, things I’ve dreamed up that I thought were perhaps far-fetched (such as the Mob taking over banks) have turned out to be true. Sometimes I think I missed my calling! ;)

 What is the oddest place/situation where an idea for a book/plot has come to you?

 I get tons of ideas in the shower or while driving. I actually bought this notepad (Aqua Notes – you can get it on Amazon) so that I could make notes in the shower. It’s been worth every penny!

 What makes a book stand out and perk your interest?

 The premise. I love books with seemingly impossible conflicts to resolve. 

 We all have our favorite authors.  Can you share some of yours and tell us why you like them? 

 J.R. Ward, Darynda Jones, Larissa Ione, Pamela Clare, Kristine Cayne (my awesome critique partner!). They all write books with bad-ass heroes, fast-moving plots, and sexual chemistry that’s off the charts! 

 We all have a pet peeve, care to share yours?

 Mine is books with a great premise but that haven’t been edited. I can deal with some typos, but when words are constantly misused and sentences are so garbled that I have to read them again and again to try to make sense of them, it just becomes work to read. I hate slogging through a book. I want to get lost in the story. If I’m hitting errors in every sentence or every paragraph, I never forget that I’m reading. It bums me out!

 When you’re not writing, what are the things you enjoy doing to relax?

 Reading, reading, reading! And watching great TV. There are so many awesome shows on these days. One of my all-time faves is “Supernatural.” I’m a total Dean girl!

The final book, Reckoning, is slated for release in early 2015.

 Nick turned the music up and caught Delfina’s eye. Was it just his imagination, or had she been admiring his bare arse? “Watching me, were you?” he asked, keeping his voice pitched low.

 She blushed, roses staining her cheeks. His chest felt lighter than it had in weeks. “I’m not answering that.”

 He strode over to her and leaned in, forcing her to sprawl back on the bed, caged within his arms. He placed his lips near her ear. “Your blush told me everything. Every single naughty thought you were having.”

 “Madonna,” she muttered and braced her hands against his chest. “You’re getting a swollen head.”

 He darted his tongue out and ran it along the edge of her ear. “Most certainly.” He put a knee up on the bed and rubbed his cock along her thigh.

 She laughed and pushed against him, but he didn’t budge. “Time to get undressed,” he whispered. Her hands went to the buttons that ran down the front of the silk blouse tucked into her skirt. She played with the top one. 

 “Now?” she asked, her voice lilting and playful.

 “Now.” He rumbled the word in her ear and she shivered. “Take it off. I want to see you. All of you.”
